Privacy policy — VFW Post 318 app

Ira L. Cater VFW Post 318 (“the Post”) provides this app so members and guests can see hours and events, receive optional alerts, send photos for the Post’s lobby board, and send comments to the Post officers.

Effective date: 30 September 2026

What the app does not collect

Notifications

If you tap Allow on notifications, the app sends an Expo push token (a device identifier used only for alerts) and a platform name (ios or android) to a Post-operated Cloudflare Worker. That token is stored so an officer can send a short blast such as a cancelled event.

You can turn notifications off in system Settings at any time. Uninstalling the app also stops alerts. Stale tokens are removed when the push service reports that the device is no longer registered.

Photos for the lobby board

Sending photos is optional. The app asks for access to your photo library only when you choose photos to send, and it reads only the photos you pick. Before sending, the app resizes each photo and removes its hidden details, including location. You can add an optional caption and name.

Photos go to the Post’s lobby board service, which is run by the Post on Cloudflare. An officer reviews each photo before it can appear on the lobby television or in the Post’s photo albums. Photos an officer declines are deleted within about a day. Approved photos, with any caption and name you added, are shown on the Post’s lobby board, which can also be viewed on the web, and stay until an officer removes them.

Comments to the Post

Sending a comment is optional. Your comment, and the name and contact details you choose to add, go to the Post officers only. Comments are never shown on the lobby board. They are kept until an officer deletes them.

To limit spam, the service briefly records the network (IP) address a photo or comment came from. Those records are deleted automatically after a short time.

Hours and events

Hours and events come from the Post’s server. The app keeps a copy on your device so those screens still work offline.

Sharing

Nothing you send is sold or used for advertising. Push tokens are not shown on the officer admin page. Alerts are sent through Expo’s push service to Apple and Google so they can reach your device. Comments are seen only by Post officers. Photos are seen by Post officers, and approved photos by anyone viewing the lobby board.
